Pinterest art deco board

I thought that it would be a good idea to use Pinterest to collect my research on other art deco  designs and see if they are similar or different to my own.I noticed that the text and color were very similar to what I had made the bold letters and striking colours. I tried to add styles from popular films such as Batman Begins and adverts, so I had a lot to compare my own design to.I like to use Pininterest when I have to research as I think its an interesting way of gathering sources.

                                                                                                 Video on writing a screenplay

I enjoyed watching this video because it was interactive and engaging.I learnt an awful lot about writing a screen play as it goes into great depth about what is involved through the process.

Art Influences

As part of my research I created a Powtoon animation on the art that had influenced my film.It shows why I had chosen to take inspiration from the designs of the 20s and 30s and how my poster compares with classic posters such as Metropolis.I have explored what art deco is and how it interests me.The reason I attempted to go for this style was because my film is a thriller that has segments that involve film noir.

Artist Influences

SALVADOR DALI

Before I started the process of writing and creating my film and its poster I decided to look into past artists for inspirations.Salvador Dali was one of the best known examples of the surrealist movement and I tried to make my own poster unusual in this same style. My own poster takes influence from these pieces below , with its giant eye, overlooking the city below.

MAX ERNST

Max Ernst invented a graphic art technique-frottage.This involved using pencil rubbings of objects as a source of images.Secondly he also created the graftage technique. This involved using paint to scrape canvas to reveal imprints of objects underneath.

Filming screenshots

Below I have added some shots from my first filming session. The film follows two young characters .One is on the run from the corrupt government , whereas the other is trying to protect him from inside of the capital. The film is a thriller as It is slowly revealed that everything is not as it seemed at the beggining. I have not finished editing the final version on Premier Pro , so I have shown my progress through these photographs-

Peer Feedback

To collect feedback on my blog, My peers assessed my blogs by giving me some positives and negatives. It was generally written that the blog needed to focus on updating my work more regularly. This would show the tweaks I have made to the design. Secondly, I also needed to add more time management posts in order to track the amount of work I have been doing. On a more positive note, my peers found that I had successfully used a range of digital technologies to enhance the blog and make it more engaging. I think this exercise helped me immensely , as it gave some directions to improve that I would not have thought of.

Last year , my blog was very text based and I wanted to make my second more interactive with the audience. I tried to engage them with more videos and websites to make it  was more immersive. My peers noticed that the use of technology was definitely better as I have had time to learn how to operate a range of websites.I aim to make the blog better overall by showing the process of designing my product at different stages.

Here are each of the comments:

Poster update

After receiving some feedback on my poster,I added the names of the magazines and website that had given the reviews at the top of the page.I also changed the scale of the writing and text so it was clear and professional. I think the poster succeeds in being of the thriller genre as it is quite ambitious and leaves the audience intrigued as to what will happen. Overall , I am pleased with the quality of the poster because it is thought provoking and unique , which is hard to achieve with so many Thriller posters out there. I wanted the overall message to be that this there is someone watching our protagonists , making the audience feel ill at ease.

bbfc rating of my film

By following the rules and regulations of BBFC I have rated my film as a 12A because to is not for young children. Initially I warranted it at 18 , but after consideration I decided to lower this rating because there is no violence , bad language or nudity etc.
The BBFC website

What might a 12A contain?
1)A 12A may include brief sex scenes
2)Some horror film can be passed as 12A , and mine has elements of this genre as it is quite frightening
3)The official BBFC website explains that a dark or unsettling film would either fit between a 12 or a 15

What does my short film contain?

My film only features some behavior that teens may copy , hence my reasoning for not allowing it to be a U . I refrained from using bad language or violence as I wanted to focus on the characters psychology as the scary or imposing element. I don't believe that my film would have been as memorable with violence as half the storyline that is created is simply applied , and that makes it much more frightening.

Key influences

This post will examine what other fathers have influenced my own product. Although , the film is a thriller , it also has elements of the science fiction and horror  genres. One major issue with the films narrative was that it was of a huge scale, the idea of government control is  probably too ambitious to do justice in only three minutes.I tried to scale the action back and make it more of a story about the relationship between two people and the effect society has had on them.

Strangers on a train (Alfred Hitchcock , 1951)

I am aware I have already covered that this film influenced me , but the idea of two major charcters under pressure is seen here with one man blackmailing the other. The black and white makes the film more harrowing and frightening as the character of Bruno appearing in the shadows confronts Guy.

                                                                     The Hunger Games(Gary Ross,2012)

As mentioned previously , my short film has much in common with science fiction and dystopian society. The Hunger Games seems to be very similar on paper , but it is different when you watch my short film as mine is much smaller in scale. The film is a 12A similar to this franchise as it has a lot of adult themes , but is not as violent as many other thriller or science fiction films.

                                                                            Brazil (Terry Gillaim, 1985)

Much of the strangeness of my film is similar to the approach Terry Gilliam's Brazil took when it came out in 1985.Even if you watch the film multiple times , you see something you never noticed before , and the film is packed with different meanings and theme , similar to my own.

The Truman Show (Peter Weir, 1998)

This film is similar to my film as the main protagonist finds himself in a world he does not fully understand. Its a world that is controlled by a higher force and I think that this film influenced me in that respect. The big difference is that the main character finds a way out of his nightmare , but in my short , the protagonists do not have a happy ending.
